At OakBank school we are happy to offer Bike Maintenance to all of our students from key stage two to key stage three as a core part of their learning and as a on going option for students who wish to continue on in key stage four and five.
A workshop stocked with 4 professional bike stands along with the specialist tools needed to maintain and build a wide variety of bikes is found on site and can take up to 4 students at at time. Inside, the students learn to work alongside each other and gain the relevant skills needed to not only maintain a running bicycle but also build their own from scratch.
Being in the workshop allows our students to gain confidence when working with tools and really get to know the feeling of the teamwork associated with workshop environments in the real world. This allows a wide variety of skill sets to not only be shared but worked upon as each student will arrive with varying knowledge and this is then built upon, with students often being involved in the learning of other students.
Bike Maintenance also plays a huge role in social time as well as the activities we hold during enrichment sessions. Students can opt to use their free time to maintain the fleet of bikes we use on site, where you will find a fully stocked bike garage including bikes from small BMXs up to fully dedicated Jump and Trials Bikes.
