Welcome to Oak Bank School

A special message from the Head Teacher
For those of you who do not know about Oak Bank School, we are a special school which caters for pupils who have social, emotional and mental health difficulties, including associated challenging behaviours. Many of the pupils that attend the school have additional special educational needs such as autistic spectrum disorder (ASD), attention deficit and hyperactive disorders (ADHD) and speech, language and communication difficulties.
Places for pupils are commissioned at the school by several local authorities, Including Central Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Milton Keynes and Luton. All pupils who are referred to the school have an education, health and care plan.
Oak Bank is an Outstanding learning community (Ofsted 2015 & 2019) that engages pupils and develops positive attitudes to learning. The school currently has capacity for 115 pupils ranging from age 9 to 19. ‘The quality of education is outstanding and life changing’ Ofsted March 2019.
Staff at Oak Bank are confident and skilled in building positive relationships that help to break down barriers, build self-esteem and challenge disaffection. Teachers and support staff at Oak Bank are highly trained to meet the needs of individual pupils.
Many of the pupils that attend Oak Bank have not had success in their education elsewhere. Through their attendance at Oak Bank, these pupils rebuild their trust and desire to learn. Our pupils achieve exceptionally well academically, from often lower-than-expected starting points. They leave school at Year 11 or after sixth form with relevant qualifications and work experience that helps them gain employment.
Our website provides only a glimpse into the range of our provision, ethos, activities and the fun that our pupils and staff enjoy as they learn. Please contact the school if you would like to know more.

Oak Bank Families:
It has been wonderful to see the majority of our pupils return and to start the journey back to a ‘normal’ way of working.
As you may be aware, as part of our preventative measures to manage COVID-19 in school, we have been using hand held thermometers to take the temperatures of all pupils on their arrival at school. Since we introduced this preventative measure, the Government has now introduced Lateral Flow Testing (LFT) in schools and made testing tests available for parents / carers to be able to test their children at home.
The recent guidance from Public Health England is:
‘There is no scientific evidence to support temperature screening to detect COVID-19 as a way to identify people who may be infected.
Temperature readings measure skin rather than core body temperature. Natural fluctuations in temperature can occur among healthy individuals. Infected people who do not develop a fever or who do not show any symptoms would not be detected by a temperature reading and could unknowingly spread the virus’. (Source Public Health England).
In light of this guidance, we will cease taking pupil’s temperatures on arrival at school from Monday 15th March. We are grateful to all of you who are supporting the school’s current COVID-19 control measures by consenting to your child bringing a Lateral Flow Test home and undertaking a regular testing routine. If you have not already consented to your child undertaking a regular Lateral Flow Test I would urge you to return the consent form as a measure to help keep your child, family, and school community safe from COVID-19.
We do recognise that some pupils will find testing themselves difficult and to support these pupils, the school will retain our own testing site, until the Easter holidays, so that pupils who are unable to test themselves at home can still participate.
If you require any more information about Lateral Flow Testing, please contact the school and speak to your child’s key worker
Kind regards
