Physical Education & Prince’s Trust

Welcome to Physical Education Department at Oak Bank School

Broad, Ambitious, and Grounded
At Oak Bank, our Physical Education curriculum is crafted to ensure every student, regardless of their physical, social, emotional, or academic abilities, accesses a high-quality program that fosters personal, social, and emotional growth alongside physical skills development. We aim to build confidence and self-esteem through achievement in PE and sports tailored to each student’s developmental stage.

Knowledge Rich
Our PE curriculum goes beyond physical activity by nurturing skills and knowledge essential for healthy living and active citizenship. We address gaps in motor skills, social development, and emotional resilience, ensuring all students follow one of three “PE Pathways” that guide their learning journey at Oak Bank.

Intelligently Planned
Our curriculum is intelligently planned to accommodate diverse needs and interests, promoting inclusivity and barrier-free access to physical activities. From core motor skill development in KS2 to specialised pathways and qualifications in KS4, students progress through a curriculum designed to enhance social skills, resilience, and team-working abilities.

Culturally Rich
Students explore a wide variety of sports and physical activities, both on and off-sites, fostering an appreciation for social and cultural aspects of physical activity. Through intra-school activities, daily enrichment programs, and community-based sports events, students engage in real-world settings to develop social skills and cultural awareness.

Reading Focused
Literacy skills are integrated into PE tasks, promoting reading through objectives, key words, and subject-specific materials. Written tasks evolve from self-assessment in younger years to qualifications and pathway-specific work in KS4, ensuring literacy supports and challenges each student appropriately.

Context-Specific
Our PE curriculum supports students at all levels of readiness, addressing motor skill gaps and promoting active lifestyles through tailored activities and personal development initiatives. We provide targeted support for students facing physical, social, emotional, or mental health challenges, fostering their confidence and resilience.

Values-Driven
At Oak Bank, PE instils our core values of Adaptability, Social Skills, Problem Solving, Independence, Respect, and Expression. Students embody these values through resilience, sportsmanship, teamwork, creativity, and care for others, driving them towards excellence in all they do.

Underpinned by Rules
Safety is paramount in our PE program, with rigorous risk assessments and regular equipment inspections ensuring the highest safety standards. Our staff are extensively trained and qualified, with expertise in managing activities that involve higher risks, such as trampolining, contact sports, swimming, and rock climbing. Off-site trips are meticulously planned and risk-assessed to meet health and safety requirements.

Thank you for exploring Physical Education at Oak Bank School, where we are committed to nurturing well-rounded individuals through a dynamic and inclusive PE curriculum.
